Online Fair Trade Bible Study Overview

In this Bible study, participants are invited to a guided exploration of the concept of fair trade in relation to teachings found in the Bible.

Since this is an online study, you will only get out of it what you put into it. Here are some suggestions for getting the most out of this study:
  • Set aside time at least weekly to explore the content of the FairTrade classroom.
  • Consider this study to be part of a spiritual discipline that takes you into the Advent season of the Church.
  • Take time to connect the concepts in the scripture for the week with events in your daily life and with your exploration of fair trade concepts on the Internet.
  • READ THE BIBLE! You are welcome to use your own Bible in this study or there are many translations available online. The translation most commonly used in United methodist churches is the New Revised Standard Version (a related free translation, the World English Bible, is available on this site through http://classroom.chmaster.org/bible).
  • Participate in the dialogue in the FairTrade classroom through the forums. Your thoughts and opinions are worthy of expression. It is in community that we grow in Christ.
  • Use the journal activities for further reflection on the subject of fair trade. *link to Reflection Journal PDF HERE*
  • Participate in the 3 learning /worship gatherings at Church of the Master.

The first learning/worship gathering will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 4:00pm at Church of the Master.
In the second learning/worship gathering on Nov. 7, which is All Saints Sunday, we will reflect on our learnings and share a time of worship that moves us "From Consumerism to Caring."

The culminating learning/worship experience for this class will be on Sunday, Dec. 12 which is also a holy day celebrated in Latin American culture as El Dia De La Virgen Guadalupe.

All 3 gatherings (Oct. 3, Nov. 7, & Dec. 12) will be on Sundays at 4:00pm at Church of the Master United Methodist.

In your discipleship, feel free to organize other gatherings around this study, especially in coffeehouses where fair trade coffee is sold.

Love God.
Grow in Christ.
Live to Serve.

In the Spirit,
Robin
